Just finished watching the last episode on The Office. For sometime i had been wondering in this economy how it was relevant that instead of showing layoffs The Office had Michael Scott quit his job and start his own paper company.
MSP Co had been undercutting Dunder Mifflin for some time and had taken about 10 high profile candidates from them. David Wallace, Michael’s old boss thus offered to buy out MSP Co. His main objective was to buy back his clients. With what Michael said next, the show just became relevant. If DM were to buy out MSP Co, he would start another company and then another and then another – there isn’t a shortage of company names that he can come up with. But, that’s not what MSP Co was about. It is about the employees. This part resonated well with me.
The employees are what make the difference between a great idea and great execution. Time and time again, i have heard successful companies iterate that their employees are their biggest asset and working with some wonderful people i have begun to see why. The right employees are loyal, go the extra mile and make a difference. It’s this reason that we read in the news that company x was acquired primarily for their most valuable asset – their employees.
