1. Add Twitter Groups natively
The number one requested feature by Twitterers? Yes, i know about services like Twibes.com that let you form Twitter groups but i would rather have this supported by Twitter.com itself. I would love to broadcast a message to a select group of people.
2. Twitter Personal
I love the idea of Twitter being able to send short messages anywhere, anytime by anyone. I would like to see devices in the future leveraging Twitter to send out personal messages to the owners. Imagine being notified that the washer has finished washing your clothes and it’s time to switch loads. This being broadcasted just to you via https to all your devices.
3. Threading
Ok, so my biggest pet peeve contacting people on Twitter is understanding the context during a conversation. I know Twitter is not a chat client but it’s a great tool to keep a conversation going. The only problem while attempting to follow a conversation is figuring out if the replies are directed to you, in the same conversation or not. Hashtags are nice but do not convey context appropriately.
4. Hashtags
We need a hashtag directory. Right now hashtags.org maintains a list, but only for users that are following @hashtags. Twitter – to create new topics, we need to know what currently exists. Also imagine the wealth of information that can be gathered from knowing and analyzing the existing hashtags.
5. Smart filters
iTunes style smart filters should be added to the main service. This would be similar to advance search, but would make it a lot easier for users to apply these filters on the fly. As Twitter starts growing it would also help reduce spam.
6. Twitter Profile Statistics
Twitter should acquire Twitterholic or provide interesting statistics under a user’s profile. Right now, the number of followers is the only benchmark for popularity, but adding analysis on a variety of activity would spice up user interest.
7. Better theming options
Twitter needs better theming options. Tumblr for instance does a much better job at this. I really don’t want to see Twitter go the MySpace route, where users can add glitter and music. But controlled theming options would do it wonders.
8. Hire a good UX designer!
This one is a no brainer.
